New Years Study Resolution.

Finding Your Own Unique Study Plan

You may want to change up or improve your existing study plan this new year. In just pursuit of that, we have prepared a plethora of distinctive ways to approach your studies this year! Remember there is no ‘it’ way to do it – pick an effective study plan that suits your individual learning style and preferences.

Study Apps
There are many great apps to help you in your study planning and approach:

MyHomework Student Planner
  • This one is an awesome way for you to organise and track all of your classes, homework, assignments and tests.
Quizlet
  • This app allows you to learn with flashcards by either making your own or accessing other ones made by other millions of students!
Dragon Anywhere
  • If you are an auditory leaner, this app is right up your alley. It will dictate any of your documents and notes. So, you can multitask by listening to your notes on your drive to school, or while you’re doing your other daily activities like cleaning or eating!
Study Bunny
  • This app is designed to make your studying a more fun and unique experience! It will motivate you to be productive with features such as its Focus Timer, customisable study tracker etc.
Pocket
  • This one’s for the senior students in subjects with lots of extended response writing like Legal Studies. It allows you to save and curate your own space of articles, websites and news. You can then come back to these and articulate them into your notes or/and essay responses.
XMind
  • A specifically designed app to focus on articulating complex mind maps, diagrams and charts. This one will come in handy for those tedious, complex concepts you may encounter in some of your subjects.

E-Notetaking
This is definitely an increasingly popular choice for students. More often than not, writing out your notes is more effective than typing them. Well, you can still get the convenience and easy organisation of electronic notes without having to type them on your laptop or PC. Using OneNote, GoodNotes or Notability, (to name a few), allows you to physically write out your notes (albeit on a screen) and have it stored across your devices. This gives you the benefit of an effective notetaking experience that ensures comprehension and memorisation of your content, but at the same time grants you all the benefits of having digital notes on your computer.

Flashcards
Whether you write them out on palm cards or use apps such as Quizlet, Anki Flashcards maker or so on, these are a great way to test yourself! It’s an old technique, but definitely an effective and efficient one. Remember you don’t only have to use these for learning or memorising concepts or terms, but you can also use them to test yourself. In doing so, you can organise your cards into different piles based on how well you know the content of each card(s)!

Traditional: Handwritten
Of course, we have our traditional way of doing things – that is physically handwriting your notes on paper! This is another great approach. You can elevate your study planning and experience by incorporating:
  • Colour-coding (of either different coloured highlighters or pens for definitions, explanations, diagrams etc);
  • Distinctive sticky-notes used for different things such as: flagging what you need to relearn and go over again, content you need to ask questions on, information that you still need to complete etc!
